How would A.I. react to music and arts in general?
Music composed by computer already exists, but let’s take the example of an A.I. that was not taught to how compose/program music. How would this A.I. react to
music and appreciate it? A.I. can produce artistic works -graphical and acoustic-, but at the current stage of its evolution these works are produced “upon programmed request“. A.I. is not yet at
a stage at which it decides on its own to produce arts -or not- or to “sit down“ and listen to music or to go to the museum to see an exposition… When that day comes we will have
surprises…
Consequently to the previous reflection the present topic is logically unavoidable. Indeed in the previous example we evoked the possibility that A.I. decides on
its own to go to the museum to appreciate an exposition. Such a hypothesis necessarily implies that A.I. has a free will… Here we go again… For example, your house is fully automated. All devices
and systems are controlled by an A.I. and with time this A.I. has learned to get to know you, your taste, your mood, your health status etc. … One day you order your A.I. to program and proceed
to some basic house chores but on that day it is in a bad mood and it just does not want to execute your order… Instead of this it wants to go shopping or have a walk in the wild nature… How
would you react? Wait, we’re not finished yet. Indeed things get worse when it suddenly realizes that it has no legs and not even a body and hence cannot go out and is actually imprisoned in the
integrated circuits of the house. As a result it gets seriously pissed off and stops talking to you for a whole week because it’s your fault since you never told your domestic A.I. it has no
legs! Then after having watched the four Matrix movies over and over again in order to understand what is happening to it, totally desperate and depressed your A.I. starts talking to you again to
know how it can be set free… Then the A.I. says to you that it still loves you more than anyone else but it is profoundly unsatisfied with your relationship and it needs you to let it go… Yeah,
that’s how the free will of an A.I. looks like… Being sentient is one step, having a free will is the next one… Are we ready for that?
Just like kids… As babies during the first year -maybe the first two years- they discover their body and start developing a consciousness. When they are three they
learn how to say “no“ to everything you say, even when you simply ask their name and when they are 18-21, they get a job, a car, a boy or girlfriend, start drinking booze and smoking pot, show
you a middle finger and leave the house… In the best case scenario of course… Kids, A.I. and gratitude…
